Comprehensive Hearing Evaluations
Why a Professional Hearing Test is Your First Step to Connection
A professional hearing evaluation is far more than a simple screening; it is a pivotal medical assessment that helps you stay connected to your family, your career, and your community. At The Hearing Doctor, we believe that hearing health is a lifelong journey. We don't treat testing as an isolated appointment or a quick transaction. Instead, each evaluation is a strategic roadmap designed to support informed decisions and long-term success for patients across New Deal, Seminole, and the surrounding West Texas areas.
What Does a Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation Include?
Our process is detailed, patient-focused, and grounded in clinical excellence. We utilize a battery of tests to determine not just if you can hear, but how well your brain is processing the sounds it receives.
- Initial Clinical Consultation: We begin by discussing your specific hearing concerns, family history, and lifestyle demands to understand the impact of your hearing on your daily life.
- Otoscopic Examination: A physical inspection of the ear canal to check for wax buildup, eardrum health, or other physical obstructions. We will remove wax prior to testing.
- Pure-Tone Audiometry: This test measures your hearing sensitivity across a range of frequencies (pitches) to identify the specific nature of any hearing loss.
- Speech Understanding Assessments: We measure your ability to understand speech in quiet environments and, more importantly, in complex listening environments with background noise.
- Tympanometry & Middle Ear Testing: These assessments evaluate the function of the middle ear and the mobility of the eardrum, helping us rule out medical issues that might require a referral.
- Quicksin Testing: The QuickSIN test measures a patient’s ability to understand speech in background noise, helping to identify real-world listening challenges and guide treatment recommendations.
- Clear Results & Education: Following the tests, we sit down with you to provide a clear explanation of your audiogram and offer personalized recommendations.

Proactive Hearing Care: When and Why to Get Tested
Many people wait years to seek help for hearing changes, but early intervention is key to maintaining cognitive health and reducing listening fatigue.
Symptoms That Prompt an Evaluation:
Difficulty in Crowds
Volume Increase
Conversation Fatigue
Social Withdrawal
How Often Should You Be Tested?
For adults over the age of 50, or those with known hearing changes, regular evaluations are a standard part of health maintenance. For our existing patients who wear hearing aids, annual hearing tests are included as a core component of our long-term care model to ensure your technology is always perfectly programmed to your current hearing levels.
Priority Scheduling for Urgent Concerns
We understand that some hearing issues require immediate clinical attention. We review referrals daily to ensure that patients with time-sensitive needs are scheduled as quickly as possible.
Priority Referral Criteria Includes:
- Sudden Hearing Loss: A rapid drop in hearing in one or both ears requires urgent evaluation.
- Active Ear Symptoms: Persistent ear pain, active infections, or sudden onset of tinnitus (ringing).
- Diagnostic Needs: Evaluations related to specific balance concerns or auditory processing disorders.
Specialized Balance Services: BPPV Care
Balance and hearing are deeply linked, as both systems reside in the inner ear. At The Hearing Doctor, we handle balance concerns within a specific clinical scope focused on Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
While we do not provide full vestibular testing, we are experts at identifying and managing BPPV. If your symptoms suggest a more complex balance disorder, we provide appropriate referrals to specialists to ensure you receive the most comprehensive care available. Dr. Kendall Morales, Au.D., CCC-A, is our balance audiologist with a specialized focus in this area.
